There are four world-class ski areas located in Summit County and an additional 14 ski areas located within a two-hour drive. Below are a few of the best ski resorts in the area, many of which accept a Breckenridge ski pass.

Nova Guides: Located approximately 40 minutes away from Gold Point Resort, Nova Guides hosts multiple activities in both the summer and the winter months for all ages of visitors to enjoy. Take advantage of a 13-passenger fully enclosed and heated snow coach while traveling from the base of Camp Hale all the way to the top of the Continental Divide. You can embark on one of two daily trips beginning at 8:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. and enjoy three and a half hours of exploration around White River National Forest. While expert guides educate you about the historical and geographic highlights that fill the surrounding area, you will be able to enjoy lunch in the comfort of this deluxe snow coach!
What is a winter wonderland without a little old-fashioned ice skating? Stop by the Stephen C. West Ice Arena and take an afternoon off from skiing while still enjoying all of the activities the mountains put forward!
This state-of-the-art-facility, located just one mile from Grand Timber Lodge, provides entertainment for all. Stephen C. West Ice Arena offers indoor and outdoor rinks and drop-in hockey games, as well as a pro shop and concession stand. You can leave your equipment at home, as the arena offers rentals for figure skates, hockey skates, hockey equipment and helmets. In addition, you will be able to polish up your skating skills through either a group or private lesson, led by highly trained instructors.
If you’re looking for an activity that provides a workout for your whole body, then cross-country skiing is the sport for you! Cross-country skiing uses every major muscle group in your body and stands as one of the oldest forms of transport in the world. Today cross-country skiing is considered to be a recreational activity that can be fun for the entire family! While in Breckenridge, don’t forget to put on your cross-country skis, and make sure that you do not forget to stop and take in the beautiful mountain landscape surrounding you. In the immediate area, you will find three different Nordic centers, all of which have prestigious reputations and breathtaking views.
The Breckenridge Nordic Center: The Breckenridge Nordic Center is located just one mile away from our resort on Ski Hill Road. It offers over 30 kilometers of cross-country ski trails through spruce forests and open meadows. The Nordic center also has recently developed a new trail system in the neighboring Peak 7 area, with trails winding through the beautiful White River National Forest. If you are searching for a truly majestic experience, check out the moonlight snowshoe tours throughout the Nordic center. You can also reserve a daily guided tour. Passes and equipment are available at the trailhead daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Frisco Nordic Center: About nine miles from Breckenridge, the trails and views winding around the Frisco Peninsula and shores of Lake Dillon will prove to be worth every second of the short drive there! With over 40 kilometers of trails to explore through classic and freestyle cross-country skiing technique, you and your family can enjoy the fresh mountain air and even stop into the Log Lodge for a snack. Both private and group lessons are available for all ages. For those crystal-clear nights when you are feeling adventurous, call the Frisco Nordic Center to set up a reservation for night skiing!
Whether you are in search of a scenic mountain cruise with a little excitement on the side, or you are looking for a heart-pounding experience that leaves you fist-pumping into the air, snowmobiling in Breckenridge is definitely for you! Nothing stirs up adrenaline like roaring through the mountain wilderness on a snowmobile.
Good Times: Boasting the closest location in Breckenridge, Good Times offers access to breathtaking scenery and a large, comfortable lodge to enjoy. Good Times uses Polaris LXT snowmobiles that are equipped with hand warmers, electric starters and back rests.
Nova Guides: Half-day and full-day snowmobile excursion are available. Enjoy endless miles of open meadows and spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Tenmile, Gore and front ranges. All guided snowmobiling tours include door-to-door transportation, a professional guide, new model Ski-Doo snowmobile, snowsuit, boots and helmet. The morning half-day tour and full-day snowmobile tours include lunch.
White Mountain Tours: With hundreds of miles of terrain for you to cover, you can truly find something new to see on every trip with White Mountain Tours. For riders of all ages and abilities, guides will lead you through mountains, fields and forests on a two-hour trip that is offered three times per day. Families can opt to ride alone or have passengers, as well as spend the second half of their day completing the winter ziplining course!

While being whisked through the mountainous landscape and sprawling forests, you will have the opportunity to capture memories and photographs, speeding along through the snow and pulled by a well-cared-for team of racing dogs. Alpine Adventures: Located approximately 45 minutes away from Breckenridge in Leadville, Colorado, Alpine Adventures will introduce you to the jaw-dropping sights found in the San Isabel National Forest area. You will arrive on the property only to be greeted by over 100 sled dogs. You will have plenty of time to engage in a meet and greet with these furry little friends while sipping on hot apple cider. While you will want to be sure to arrive with snow gear in hand, the friendly and engaging staff will be more than happy to provide snowshoes and extra blankets for the particularly cold days. Choose a one- or a two-hour dog sled tour and experience the only “tag sled” around as two sleds become combined with two full teams of dogs running full speed ahead!
Good Times Adventures: With a fleet of top-notch snowmobiles, pristine racing dogs and a superior staff, all ready to serve you! Enjoy over 60 minutes and six miles of a dog sledding adventure after a brief orientation and history of the sport provided by the Good Times staff. Throughout the tour, you will be able to switch spots with your friends and family members so that everyone can “relay” and experience running the dogs and riding in the sled, as well as riding on a small passenger sleigh with the guide. If you are having too much fun to leave, then sign up for additional snowmobile tours located on the same property! Snowsuits and snow boots are available at no extra charge; goggles, neck warmers and gloves are available for purchase.

Breck Stables: Located only 10-15 minutes from Gold Point Resort, meet at a lodge nestled at the base of Peak 9 on the Breckenridge Ski Resort. After signing in, you will be escorted out to an oversized sleigh and will be led by a team of horses through the trails of the ski resort under the evening sky, all while sipping on hot chocolate. If you find yourself in search of a more intimate experience, don’t forget to ask about the private and dinner sleigh rides that Breck Stables has to offer!
Nordic Sleigh Rides: Travel only a few miles north of Breckenridge and load up for an evening sleigh ride guiding you to a miners’ camp with authentic artifacts dating back almost 170 years! The Nordic Sleigh Ride experience will be an evening cherished by the whole family as you enjoy both dinner and live entertainment at the miners’ camp. Prior to your arrival, you can choose from homemade sirloin, barbecue chicken, salmon or vegetable lasagna for dinner. With all the fixings to go along with your entrée, the best part of the meal might very well be the apple pies made from scratch, all cooked right over wood-fired ovens. If dinner is not enough, then you will surely remember all of the laughter shared during one of three mountain-themed comedies performed nightly.
Two Below Zero: Voted by Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown as being the “best thing she did while in Colorado,” Two Below Zero offers a true Colorado experience that you will not forget! After departing from the Frisco Nordic Center, a team of mules will wind their way through wooded trails to a large heated dinner tent where a plated dinner awaits you. Throughout dinner, also enjoy live entertainment by David Peel, former member of the Kingston Trio. With shorter hot chocolate sleigh rides also available for you and your party, the choice is up to you on how long you wish the adventure to last!
Tubing and Sledding
Whether you are five or 50 years old, nothing will bring an ear-to-ear smile to your face like riding down a hill on a sled! Here in Breckenridge, locals and visitors alike find themselves racing up hills on foot only to turn around and race back down on their sleds. As the years have gone by, area ski resorts and town recreation centers have even gone as far as to build tow ropes up the hill for visitors’ enjoyment. While in town, make sure to visit at least one, if not all, of the sledding and tubing hills that the area has to offer!
Carter Park: Situated only three blocks from Main Street in Breckenridge, Carter Park serves the town in the summer with an outdoor pavilion and spacious fields for recreational sports. In the winter, however, Carter Park serves up a perfect sledding hill. Bring your own sled and come out for an afternoon of sledding, free of charge, as you meet new friends and spend some great quality time with your family.
Copper Mountain: Serving the community since 1997, the Copper Mountain Tubing Hill is the original tubing hill in Summit County. Whether you are in the mood for a short drive over to Copper Village to do some shopping or you are hoping to wind down from a long day of skiing at Copper Mountain Resort, the tubing hill located in the East Village will prove to be an activity that will keep you coming back to Copper year after year.
Keystone Resort: With a special conveyor belt built for tubing enthusiasts, you can enjoy sliding down the mountains of Keystone as many times as you wish without the fear of ever getting tired. And while other tubing hills close as the sun goes down, Keystone offers tubing along with night skiing five days per week!
Frisco Adventure Park: While an array of activities is offered in the summer at the Frisco Adventure Park, most folks take more notice of the tubing hill located in the park during winter months while traveling on their way into Breckenridge. Open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, Frisco Adventure Park offers tube rentals, and families can use the facility by the hour. Or, if you feel that your family will make multiple trips to the park during your vacation, a 10-hour transferable punch pass is also available.
Breckenridge Recreation Center
The Breckenridge Recreation Center is must visit for active families! Boasting a state-of-the-art facility, the Breckenridge Recreation Center serves up a great daily workout and awesome activities for the entire family. Located on the north end of Breckenridge, the recreation center offers easy access to a fully equipped workout facility, an aquatics center, basketball courts, racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor tennis, a climbing wall, and even a waterslide.
Looking for your favorite exercise class? Then check out the fitness classes! Visitors can enjoy classes such as yoga, Body Pump, Zumba and spinning during several different time slots throughout the day. There are even classes designed especially for kids!
The Breckenridge Recreation Center is open seven days per week. Day passes and punch passes are available.
Breckenridge winters offer fun for all ages, including the kiddos. From fun and excitement to history and culture, there are many activities that are designed with kids in mind. From youngsters to young adults, Breckenridge offers activities to keep everyone occupied and having fun.
Breckenridge Ski School: If you want to invest in your child’s good times and get a little free time for yourself, consider Breckenridge Ski School. Breckenridge offers a variety of alternatives for children from private lessons to kids’ group classes that will take children ages 4 and older.
Sledding at Carter Park: Free and fun for kids, Carter Park is tucked into the southeast corner of town and offers an exciting sledding hill that anyone can use. Tenmile Flyer Zipline: Now open on the mountain at Peak 8! The Tenmile Flyer is a two-stage zipline with spans of 392 feet and 1,095 feet, respectively. With speeds up to 50 mph, it will be an exhilarating time for the whole family.
Ice Skating: Come to the Stephen C. West Ice Rink and skate with the whole family. The ice rink offers two rinks in the winter, one outdoor and one indoor. The ice rink offers open skate, drop-in hockey, rentals, lessons, equipment shop and more. Ice skating is a great activity to enjoy with the kiddos.
Youth programs for kids at the Breckenridge Recreation Center: The Breckenridge Recreation Center offers kids’ winter and summer programs, including swimming, indoor rock climbing, hockey, tennis, arts and music, hiking, other outdoor activities and special events throughout the year!
Breckenridge’s Mountain Top Children’s Museum: This unique museum offers a camp for children 5 to 14 years of age! The museum’s exhibits feature Rocky Mountain Wildlife, Creation Station, Kidstruction Zone, Wonder Lab, Studio Imagination and even a Tot Spot for ages 2 and under!
